深入解读
Kindle 一词对于大多数小伙伴来说应该都不会陌生，甚至不少人手中就有这么一个叫做 Kindle 的电子阅读器。有意思的是， Kindle 尊享版的英文名叫做 Kindle Oasis ，而 oasis 恰是小站3个月前推送过的小词，顺便可以一并联想记忆。
Kindle 单词本身可能源自古北欧语 kynda （点燃、点火），13世纪进入英语后原拼作 cundel 开始用来表示“点燃、开始燃烧”，既与小站2个月前推送的 douse 含义相反，又与同其结尾相同的熟词 candle （蜡烛）含义相关，多指艰难或缓慢地将木头、稻草或纸张等可燃物点燃，强调燃烧需要经过特别的准备或者说不能立马燃烧起来，比如：
- 我们看着火慢慢地燃烧起来。木柴冒出的烟把亮着灯的大房间弄得烟雾弥漫。
We watched as the fire slowly kindled. The large lamplit room was murky with woodsmoke. - 阴沉的天气持续了数日，以至于木柴太湿，火引不着。
The dismal weather hung on for days and the firewood was too wet to kindle.
从点燃这个动作出发， kindle 很自然地就被引申用来表示“燃起、激起、激发”某种情绪、感觉、兴趣等，或者说“使产生某种想法”，同样也意味着开始慢慢生长发展，比如：
- 与他分居的妻子闻到了另一个女人身上散发出的浓烈的香水味。她渐渐产生了怀疑。
His estranged wife caught the heady waft of the other woman's perfume. Suspicion kindled within her. - 她那睿智的老祖母给她讲述的精彩故事激发了她的想象力。
Her imagination was kindled by the exciting stories her sage old grandmother told her.
而从燃烧的状态出发，则可以用 kindle 引申表示“照亮、使明亮”以及“发亮、明亮起来”，比如：
- 欢愉使他容光焕发。他没有意识到自己正被诱入圈套。
Pleasure kindled his face. He did not realise that he was being lured into a trap. - 起初，她双目圆睁，炯炯发光。随后，泪水模糊了她的视线。
At first, her eyes widened and kindled. Soon afterwards, tears blurred her eyes.
此外， kindle 同小站之前推过的 lean, toll, tap 等一样也是个同形异义词，还有一个含义作动词表示雌性动物（尤指兔子）“生育”，作名词表示“一胎所生的兔子或小猫等”，则是源自英语单词 kind （种类）。而 kindle 的现代拼法正是受其影响而来。
值得注意的是， kindle 中的字母 i 发音为[ɪ]，不要盲随 kind 的发音而将其误读为[aɪ]。
