Apex 是一个就比常见单词 ape （无尾猿、类人猿）结尾多了一个字母 x 的单词，该词源自拉丁语 apex （峰顶、尖端、顶部、最末端），17世纪进入英语后也是用来表示“顶点、最高点”以及心肺、舌头、树叶等的“尖端”，即某物的顶部、最高部分或最末端，尤指有尖角的事物形成一个点的部分，比如：
- 我们注视着示威者往汽车上倒汽油并放火点燃。火焰的舌尖舔卷着绯红色的天空。
