hustings 指竞选前的政治活动。比如：

1872年以前，hustings指国会议员候选人向选民们发表政见的讲坛。hustings的意义甚至可追溯得更远：古英语husting指由国王、侯爵等人召集的集会。hustings 出自古诺尔斯语hūs（房子）和thing（集会或议会）。
