onto

onto作to a position on解。例如：

• He got onto his horse quickly.
• The boat was driven onto the rocks.
• He held onto the window ledge.
• He stepped out of the boat onto the shore.
• The boy climbed out of the attic window onto the roof.
• The cat jumped onto the table.

下面几点该注意：

（1）有许多英美人以为并没有onto这个词，他们以为用on或to便够了。

（2）onto多少有些口语性质，在正式些的文字里该避免。

（3）像下面各句里的on和to不可并成onto（on是副词）：

• We must walk on to the next village.
• Please read this and pass it on to your neighbour.
• The young author is struggling on to success.
• From one victory we go on to another.
