Los Angeles, often known by its initials L.A., is the most populous city in the U. S. state of California and the second-most populous in the United States, after New York City. It has a land area of 469 square miles (1,215 km2 ), and is located in Southern California. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican-American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased from Mexico, thereby becoming part of the United States.
洛杉矶(常缩写为L. A.)是一座位于美国加利福尼亚州南部的城市，按人口计算为加州第一大城市和美国的第二大城市(仅次于纽约市)。它的面积为469平方英里(1 215平方千米)。1848年在美墨战争结束之际，墨西哥将包括洛杉矶在内的加利福尼亚卖给美国使之成为美国的一部分。

Originally meaning “ the City of Angels” in Spanish, Los Angeles is a global city, with strengths in business, international trade, entertainment, culture, media, fashion, science and technology, sports, education. Los Angeles includes Hollywood and leads the world in the creation of television productions, video games, and recorded music; it is also one of the leaders in motion picture production, which can be largely attributed to its subtropical Mediterranean and outstanding geography. Additionally, Los Angeles hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1932 and 1984.

Important landmarks in Los Angeles include Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Angels Flight, the Kodak Theatre, the Griffith Observatory, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Hollywood Sign, Hollywood Boulevard. For Chinese tourists, there is also a China Town situated in the center of the city where overseas Chinese have a long history living and striving there and where typical Chinese culture is abundant and accessible right away.
