有人问到我曾见到这样一句话：

(1)English is more widely used than any other languages.

这里用了复数名词languages,为何不用单数language?

这里用单、复形皆可。any other language意指其他任何一种语言，any other languages=every other language （其他每一种语言）。再如：

(2)Have you any other book（s）on this subject?

下面的说法都是正确的：

(3)She is cleverer than any other girl in her class.

(4)She is cleverer than any other girls in her class.

(5)She is cleverer than any of the others in her class.
