深入解读
对于地铁一族来说， priority 这个单词也是极为熟悉的，常出现在老弱病残孕优先座（priority seat）的英文翻译中。
该词于14世纪末经古法语 priorite 或直接由拉丁语 prioritatem （在前的事实或状态）进入英语后，最初指时间等方面“在先、居前”。
等到了20世纪后， priority 开始发展出现在的主要含义作不可数名词指“优先、重点”或“优先权、先取权”，即一种被认为或视为比其他的人或事物更为重要的事实或状态，包括在英式英语中指车辆的“优先通行权”，比如：
- 俱乐部成员享有优先权。
Club members will be given priority.
常用搭配 take/have priority over sth 表示“优先于……、比……重要”以及搭配 give priority to 表示“优先考虑……、给……优先权”，比如：
- 为这场大流行病研制新的疫苗将排在其他一切医学研究之前。
