深入解读
Roam 是一个与熟词 foam 结尾相同仅首字母不同的单词。该词源自词源不详，最早出现于14世纪，用来表示人或动物“漫步、漫游、游荡、随便走”等，主要指在广阔的区域或很远的地方以自得其乐的愉快心情，漫无目的地或杂乱无章地自由漫游，比如：
- 这对情侣漫步于田野，完全忘记了时间。附近的牛群甩动着尾巴驱赶苍蝇。
The lovers roamed around the fields in complete forgetfulness of time. The cattle nearby were swinging their tails to disperse the flies.
此外，也可以用 roam 表示有目的地“走来走去”，比如：
- 那个疲惫不堪的旅人在城里四处寻觅，想找一家合适的旅馆。
The weary traveller roamed about the town trying to find a suitable hotel.
从这个概念出发，常用 roam 既引申指思想“徜徉”，也就是思绪乱飘不去想任何特定的事物，还喻指眼睛或手“扫遍、摸遍”，常用搭配 roam (over) sth/sb ，即人的眼睛或手缓慢不停地轻轻掠过某人或某物的每一个部分，比如：
- 他聚精会神地上下打量她。
His gaze roamed over her.
而在移动通信领域， roam 是一个比较常见的单词，对应“漫游”这项业务，比如开通国际漫游（international roaming）就可以使数字手机在国外畅通无阻地通信。
用作名词时， roam 相应也是表示“漫步、漫游、游荡、随便走”等，比如去溜达（to go for or have a roam）。
