Inflation targeting

In the modern era, governments in many countries have asked central banks to target a specific rate of, or range for, inflation and given them independence from political control of their operations. Inflation-targeting central banks have used various tools of monetary policy, such as changes in interest rates or quantitative easing. This article looks at the question of whether central banks’ inflation targets should be raised and this one at central banks’ independence.
