(1) 当表示两个事物在某一方面相同时,可把as...as与形容词或副词一起用。
- It's as cold as ice.
它像冰一样凉。 - She's as bad-tempered as her mother.
她脾气跟她母亲一样坏。
(2) 在口语中,特别是在美式英语中,第一个as常略去不用。
- She's pretty as her mother.
她像她母亲一样漂亮。
(3) 当人称代词接第二个as时,较正式场合用主格,口语体中用宾格。
- He's as clever as I (am)/me.
他与我一样聪明。
(4) 在否定比较句中,用not as...as或not so...as。
- She's not so/as nice as her sister.
她不像她姐姐那样好。 - He can't run so/as fast as I (can).
他跑不了我那么快。
(5) ①与一个名词连用时,不可数名词用as much...as, 可数名词(复数)用as many...as表示数量。
- I haven't got as much money as I thought.
我还没有搞到像我想的那么多钱。 - We need as many people as possible to complete the project.
我们需要尽可能多的人来完成这一工程。
②as much和as many也可用作代词。
- He ate as much as I gave him.
我给他的东西他全吃了。 - I didn't type as many (pages) as I had hoped.
我打字没有打得像我希望的那么多(页)。
③as much可用作状语指行动或状态。
- You ought to rest as much as possible (as the doctor advised).
你应尽可能地多休息(你应像医生建议的那样休息)。
(6) twice, three times等可与as...as连用(half, a quarter 等也可这样用)。
- I'm not going out with a man who's twice as old as me.
我不打算跟一个年龄是我两倍的男人出去。 - We sold three times as many tickets as we had expected.
我们卖的票数是我们预期的三倍。
(7) 带as...as的短语也可以用not nearly, almost, just, nothing like, every bit, exactly修饰。
- It's almost /not nearly/nothing like/just/exactly as cold as yesterday.
几乎与昨天一样冷/远不如昨天冷/远不像昨天那么冷/就跟昨天一样冷。 - The book is nothing like so/as difficult as I expected.
这本书远没有我预计的那么难。
(8) 在用as/so...as时,第一个as/so可后接一个形容词和一个普通名词单数,但在形容词后须有不定冠词。
- It was as/so pleasant a day as I have ever spent.
那是我所度过的最愉快的一天。
