(1) keep one's bed, take to one's bed都是指“卧病在床”;take to one's bed还可用于因年老体衰而卧床不起。
- Mary is ill and keeps(takes to) her bed .
玛丽病了,卧床不起。 - Gradually the old lady took to her bed , and may never get up again.
渐渐地,老太太卧床不起,并且可能再也起不来了。
(2) keep one's/the house可用作“(因生病或身体衰弱等原因而)待在屋里不出门”解。
- He had a flu and the doctor told him to keep the house for a couple of days.
他患了流行感冒,医生告诉他在屋里待几天。
(3) be laid up也可作“卧病在床”解。
- I hear Tom is laid up with a serious disease.
我听说汤姆患了重病躺倒了。
(4) be confined to bed指“(因病、伤、天气等原因)卧床”。
- The teacher was confined to bed with malaria last month.
这位老师上月因患疟疾而躺倒了。
(5) be (ill) in bed (with a disease)也指“卧病在床”,是口语用法;be down (with a disease)指“患病,病倒”。
- He is (ill) in bed with heart failure.
他因心力衰竭病倒在床上。 - Several students are down with influenza .
有几位学生患了流感。 - Jane was down with a cold last week, so she didn't come to work.
简上周患了感冒,因此没来上班。
(6) come down (with a disease), go down (with a disease)均可作“患病”解。
- Jessie has come down with a bad cold; she can't come to class today.
杰西患了重感冒,今天不能来上课。 - Our holiday was fine until Jim went down with a bad cold ; after that, it all got rather dull.
