区别辨析 taste, flavour/flavor 与 savour/savor

(1) ① taste指“品尝、尝出味道”。

  • She tasted the soup to see whether she had put enough salt in it.
    她尝了一下汤,看看是否放足了盐。
  • Can you taste anything strange in this soup?
    你能尝出这汤有什么怪味吗?
  • If you have a bad cold, you can't taste anything.
    如果你得了重感冒,就尝不出任何味道。

②taste也作“吃,喝”解。

  • The prisoner had not tasted food in the three days since he'd escaped.
    这名囚犯在越狱后的三天内没吃到一口东西。

③taste还可作系动词,表示有某种味道,后接形容词、介词like组成的短语或“of+某种味道的名词”。

  • The apple tastes a bit sour.
    这苹果尝起来有点酸。
  • The drink tastes like pineapple juice.
    这饮料喝起来像菠萝汁。
  • This dish tastes too much of salt.
    这道菜太咸了。
  • It tastes too much of garlic/spice.
    它的蒜/香料味太浓。
  • The meat has been cooked for too long and does not taste of anything.
    这肉被煮的时间太长了,尝不出任何味道了。

④taste用于引申,意为“体验,领略”。

  • Once people have tasted the joys of freedom, they are unwilling to become slaves again.
    一旦人们体验到了自由的快乐,他们就不会愿意再成为奴隶了。
  • During last year's trip, they tasted for the first time how dangerous, unforgiving and changeable the Antarctic can be.
    在去年的旅行中,他们第一次领略到南极洲是多么的危险、无情和多变。

 (2) flavour/flavor意为“调味,加味于”,常与with连用,可作及物动词和不及物动词。

  • She flavored the cake with chocolate.
    她在蛋糕里加了巧克力以调味。
  • When preparing the dish, you'd better add some garlic to flavor .
    做这道菜时,最好加点蒜来调调味。

 (3) ①savour/savor意为“加上(某种香味)”;又作“品味,品尝,体验”解。

  • I told my wife not to forget to put some pepper to savour the soup.
    我告诉妻子别忘了放些胡椒粉给汤调味。
  • He drank the wine slowly, savouring every drop.
    他呷着酒,细细品味。
  • She savored the pleasures of country life in the summer.
    她体验着夏季里乡村生活的快乐。

②savor of可指“(食品等)有……的味道”,可与taste of换用;也可表示有某种倾向、味道。

  • The dish savored of garlic.
    这菜有蒜味。
  • They disliked any law that savoured of more government control.
    他们不喜欢任何有更多政府控制倾向的法律。
