tawdry, inferior, shoddy, cheap, poor, valueless 与 worthless 这些词均可表示“物品的质量低劣”。

 (1) tawdry指“俗丽的，鲜丽而廉价的”。

• She has a lot of tawdry dresses.
  她有很多色彩艳丽的廉价衣服。

 (2) inferior可作“质量低劣的”解，本身也作比较级，后接to，不用than。

• These goods are of inferior quality.
  这些货物质量低劣。
• His work is inferior to hers.
  他的工作远不如她的好。

 (3) shoddy意为“冒充好货的，劣质的”。

• It is shoddy workmanship that won't bear close examination.
  冒牌的工艺经不住仔细审查。
• They put the shoddiest goods on sale right next to the valuable articles to hoodwink.
  他们把劣质商品和贵重物品放在一起出售想蒙骗人。

 (4) cheap可作“品质低劣”解。

• The shoes may be expensive but they look cheap .
  这鞋子可能价格不菲，但看起来质量低劣。

 (5) ①poor可表示“品质低劣”。

• Don't buy that coat; the cloth is of poor quality.
  别买那上衣，那布料质量不好。

②poor有时为表示礼貌、幽默或讥讽时使用，意为“价值不大的，不重要的，浅薄的”。

• In my poor opinion, you're making a great mistake.
  以鄙人浅薄之见，您犯了大错。

 (6) valueless意为“无价值的，无用的”，与worthless同义。

• The old type of $5 notes is worthless/valueless now.
  面值5美元的老式纸币已无价值。
• This jewelry is valueless ; it is made of glass and ordinary metals.
  这珠宝毫无价值；它是用玻璃和普通金属制成的。

注意：priceless, invaluable意为“无价的，非常珍贵的”。(另见“priceless...”条目)

• Her services are invaluable to me.
  她的服务对我来说弥足珍贵。
