trail, follow, chase 与 pursue 这组词都含有“追”的意思。

 (1) trail可表示“追踪”，通常指循足迹或线索追赶，也指落在后面，无精打采地跟在后面走。

• The police trailed the thieves to their hideout/hiding-place.

 (2) follow意为“跟随，追随”，不太强调速度或追赶的目的；可以是任何方式，可出于任何动机，是一般用语。
