Pride and Prejudice is a novel of manners by Jane Austen, first published in 1813. The story follows the main character, Elizabeth Bennet, as she deals with issues of manners, upbringing, morality, education, and marriage in the society of the landed gentry of the British Regency.
《傲慢与偏见》是简·奥斯汀的一部社会风俗小说，于1813年首次出版。故事跟随主角伊丽莎白·班纳特如何对待英国士绅社会中的礼仪、家教、道德、教育和婚姻等一系列问题逐步展开。
Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet's five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible Mr. Bingley and his status-conscious friend, Mr. Darcy, have moved into their neighborhood. While Bingley takes an immediate liking to the eldest Bennet daughter, Jane, Darcy has difficulty adapting to local society and repeatedly clashes with the second-eldest Bennet daughter, Elizabeth. However, as time passes by, Mr. Darcy gradually fell in love with Elizabeth but he was turned down because of his pride. As for Elizabeth, after going to Mr. Darcy's house where she saw a different side of him, she was able to give up her prejudice against him and realized she was also in love with him. The young couple finally got admitted by their parents and lived a happy life ever after.
《傲慢与偏见》的故事发生在19世纪初的英国，讲述了班纳特先生和班纳特太太五个未婚女儿在有钱又抢手的宾利先生和他“势利”的朋友达西先生成为她们的邻居之后所发生的故事。尽管宾利对班纳特的长女一见倾心，但是达西难以适应当地生活，并与班纳特的二女儿伊丽莎白不断发生摩擦。然而，随着时间的流逝，达西渐渐爱上了伊丽莎白，但是由于他的傲慢被她拒绝了。伊丽莎白在达西家做客时惊讶地发现了达西好的一面，渐渐消除了对他的偏见并且发现自己也深爱着达西。最后两人得到了双方家庭的认可，幸福地生活在一起。
Though Austen set the story at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of “most loved books”. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature, and receives considerable attention from literary scholars.
