猫

Cats is a musical which is based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It is one of the most popular and enduring musical in 20th century. Since its debut in London in 1981 and then on Broadway in 1982, it has been performed in more than three hundred cities in twenty-six countries around the world.

The story is about a tribe of cats called the Jellicles, which is led by Old Deuteronomy. They gather together every year to have a Jellicle Ball. Old Deuteronomy will choose a cat and send it to Heaviside Layer. The cat that is chosen will be reborn, so each cat introduces itself and attempts to be chosen. Grizabella appears as a shabby old grey cat. However, she was charming ever before. She sings a song Memory . All other cats was moved and elected her unanimously to be the one to go to the Heaviside Layer. And Memory has turned into a musical classic.

The show is completely told through music with virtually no spoken dialogue in between the songs. Dance is also a key element in the musical. There appears lively tap dance, gorgeous ballet, a dynamic jazz and modern dance. The dance of the Jellicle Ball is plenty of spectacular. Cats enjoys a huge success, winning two Oliver Awards and seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting, and Best Costumes.
