The Sound of Music
音乐之声

The Sound of Music is the final musical written by two American musical masters, with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The Sound of Music is adapted from the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers . It was premiered on Broadway at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on 16 November, 1959 and then enjoyed numerous revivals.
《音乐之声》是美国两位音乐剧大师合力打造的最后一部音乐剧，由理查德·罗杰斯作曲，奥斯卡·翰默斯坦二世填词。《音乐之声》根据玛利亚·冯·特拉普的自传——《冯·特拉普家的歌手们》改编而成。该剧于1959年11月16日在百老汇的鲁德-方特恩剧院首次公演，之后多次重新再版演出。

The story is about a nun from Nonnberg Abbey called Maria. She was sent off to be the governess to Captain Von Trapp's seven troublesome children. Alone with children, she broke through their wariness and taught them the basics of music. Moved by Maria's purity and kindness, Von Trapp fell in love with and married Maria. Because of the great depression, the Captain became penniless. The couple and seven children formed a professional band. However, the Nazis invaded Austria later. The captain refused to obey the Nazi's order. At the concert, the whole family sang So Long, Farewell eventually and fled over the mountains (the Alps) to avoid the search of the Nazis.

People are not only fascinated by the characters, such as undisciplined Maria, patriotic Captain, but also intoxicated by beautiful melodies like The Sound of Music, Do Re Mi and Edelweiss . The Sound of Music was a great success and picked up 6 Tony Awards.
