有一读者问： 有这样两个句子：
(1)They are playing in the street.
(2)There is a line of boys and girls on Garden Street.
为什么句（1）用in the street而句（2）却用on Garden Street?
在street之前，英国英语用in，美国英语用on。但请注意：1.在习语上，并无英美之别，如美国英语亦须用the man in the street，英国英语亦须用be on the streets; 2.美国作家也有在street之前用in的情况，如：
(3)A storm raged in Main Street.
