有一读者问： 有这样一句话：
(1)Since then hundreds of years have passed.
这里的have是否应改为has?
表时间、金钱、距离等的复形名词用作主语时，如强调其作为一个单一的不可分的整体，其谓语动词应用单数，如：
(2)Four years is a moment in history. （four years在此被看作一整段时间）
(3)A thousand dollars is a large sum. （a thousand dollars在此被看作一笔款）
(4)A hundred miles is a long distance. （a hundred miles在此被看作一整段距离）
但表时间、金钱、距离等的复形名词用作主语时，如强调其具体的个别组成部分，其谓语动词则应用复数，上述例（1）即是一例，再如：
(5)Every day more than four hours are slavishly wasted on commuting between our home and factory.
(6)Last year 140，000 yuan were raised for the project.
(7)Many miles were covered by him on his bicycle.
但有时用单形动词还是复形动词，则随作者的主观态度而定，如下面句中的谓语动词既可用单数，亦可用复形：
(8)The fifty miles was （或were）covered by the winner in 14 hours, 14 minutes and 45 seconds.
