Denounce 是一个与小站之前推送过的 renounce 不仅十分形似而且容易混淆的单词。该词源自拉丁语 denuntiare （宣布、宣告；谴责、威胁；指挥、命令），14世纪初经古法语进入英语后原指“宣布，以正式的方式使人知道”，不过这个含义现在已不再流行。
发展到今天， denounce 主要用来表示“谴责、指责、痛斥”，多指因强烈地感到对方是错的或邪恶的而进行公开严厉的批判指责，比如：
- 新上任的政府的经济政策受到了各方面的谴责。与此同时，现行货币政策也抑制了经济的发展。
