Lurk 一词可能最终源自中古英语 luren （皱眉、潜伏），现在主要表示意图不轨地“埋伏、潜伏”，多是为了攻击某人或做不正当的事，比如：
- 有条貌似奄奄一息的鳄鱼就潜伏在水面下。
A seemingly moribund crocodile was lurking just below the surface. - 有个凶残的人藏在黑影里。
Someone vicious was lurking in the shadows.
也可以用来形容危险、疑虑、恐惧等不好的感觉或特征“暗藏、潜在”，比如：
- 夜晚这些街角隐藏着危险。
