英译汉常见错误 | tip 提示［醒］，建议

［例句］　Buying tips: For a rigid pond liner, fibreglass is more expensive than plastic, but is stronger and lasts longer.
［误译］　（材料）购买小费：用作刚性池衬，玻璃纤维比塑料昂贵，但强度和耐久性较好。
［原意］　（材料）采购提示：用作刚性池衬，玻璃纤维比塑料昂贵，但强度和耐久性较好。
［说明］　本例的tips（复数）意为“提示［醒］”、“建议”，而不是“小费”。但并非凡是tips都是可作此解，例如下面的TIPS就另有所指：TIPS＝Technological Information Promotion System，意为“（联合国）技术信息促进系统”。前者的tips是单词的复数，后者的TIPS是首字母缩略语。
