深入解读

Coherent 一词源自拉丁语 cohaerere （连贯、一致）的过去分词 cohaerentem ，16世纪50年代经法语 cohérent 进入英语后，相应也是用来表示“一致的、连贯的、协调的”，常意味着构成一个和谐统一的整体，比如：

• 该新成立的政党缺乏一致的政治目标。
  The nascent party lacks coherent political goals.
• 他未能制定出一条连贯的策略来实现服务的现代化。
  He has failed to work out a coherent strategy for modernising the service.

从这个概念出发，到了16世纪70年代后， coherent 常用来喻指话语、观点、思想等“条理清楚的、明白易懂的、前后一致的”，强调逻辑清晰、组织良好，以自然或合理的方式连接、接续或整合，从而易于理解和说明，比如：

• 条理清楚的叙述
  a coherent narrative
• 明白易懂的阐释
  a coherent explanation
• 前后一致的观点
  a coherent argument

将其用来形容人时，则相应表示“讲话条理清晰的、有表达能力的、能把自己的意思说清楚的”，比如：

• 几乎语无伦次
  to be barely coherent
• 他在面试中回答问题时非常从容镇静。我希望自己也能那样条理清晰。
  He's so calm when he answers questions in interviews. I wish I could be that coherent.
