(1) ①Britisher用于美式英语和其他英语中。Briton主要用于(英国)报纸标题中，如：THREE BRITONS DIE IN AIR CRASH空难中有三名英国人丧生。

英国人喜欢称自己为Welshmen, Scots, Irishmen或Englishmen。必要时，可用一个形容词，如：British, the British或British people。

English可用作名词，表示“英格兰人，英国人”，是总称。

• The English have a wonderful sense of humour.
  英国人很有幽默感。

②要表示单复数和性别，可用Englishman, Englishmen, Englishwoman， Englishwomen。

 (2) 作为一种语言，English前不加冠词。但作为英国人用的语言、某个时代的英语、特定的英语作品、词、版本等须加冠词。
