distribute, dispense, divide 与 allocate 这些词都含有“分配”的意思。
(1) distribute指把某物分成一定的部分或数量,各部分的数量不一定相等,然后分给某些人或地方。
- They are distributing handbills among the passers-by on the street.
他们在街上给行人分发传单。 - Last year the company did not distribute dividends to its shareholders.
公司去年没给股东分红。
(2) dispense意为“配发,分发,给予”,指分配给一群人每人应得的份额,定量分配。
- On Saturday morning, my father solemnly dispensed pocket money to each of the children.

(3) divide指把整体按一定比例分成若干份,通常是主动、自愿地分开。

(4) allocate尤指经正式决定,将一定数量的财物或任务分配给某些人、单位或事业等。
