(2) be down for意为“报名参加(比赛等)”，等于have one's name entered for(usually a competition)。

(3) be in for意为“已报名参加(比赛等)”，也作“申请，求(职)”解。
- Are you in for the running race?
这次赛跑你报名了吗？ - How many people are in for the director's job?
有多少人报名竞争院长的职位？
(4) go in for可作“试图参加(比赛、测验)”解。
- Are you going in for the singing competition?
你打算参加歌咏比赛吗？ - Mary has gone in for the flower-arranging competition, but I don't think she has a chance.
玛丽已去参加插花比赛，但我认为她没有机会取胜。
(5) put down for除其他用法外，也表示“(为某人或自己)报名参加(比赛、活动、组织等)；报名上(某个学校)；写上(某人)出(多少钱)；登记上(某人)要买”。

(7) send in(for)可作“派(人)或送(作品等)参赛”解。

(8) volunteer for意思是“为……主动提供；使自己或别人报名参加某事；自愿参加做某事”，volunteer可以是及物动词，也可是不及物动词。与上面短语不同的是，volunteer for更突出“主动，自愿”的意味。
