go on doing sth., go on to do sth., go on with, keep on, keep on doing sth., keep doing sth., keep on with sth., continue doing sth., continue to do sth. 与 proceed to do sth. 这些短语除go on to do sth.外，意思比较接近，都是“继续，持续”的意思，但在使用上有些差别。

 (1) go on doing sth. 意味着不间断。

• The prices will go on rising for some time.
  物价将持续上涨一段时间。
• It goes on raining still.
  雨将继续下。
• She went on studying till late in the night.
  她继续学习一直到深夜。
• The fighting will go on (=We will go on fighting...) until the enemy surrender unconditionally.
  战斗将持续到敌人无条件投降之时。

 (2) go on to do sth.表示“接着又……”，后常接to say, to talk, to explain, to recall等一类词，表示结束一个话题之后接着又换了另一个话题。

• After dwelling upon/on the political and economic situation at home, he went on to talk about the world situation.
  在详细地谈了国内的政治经济形势之后，他接着又谈了世界的形势。
• He went on to show us how to do it.
  接着他又向我们演示了如何来做这件事。
• He went on to speak of his own experiences in the war.
  接着，他又谈起了自己在战争中的经历。

＊这句话也可以这样表达：He began speaking of his war experiences after he had finished speaking of something else.

• He went on speaking of his own experiences in the war.
  他继续谈自己在战争中的经历。

＊此句也可这样表达：He continued to speak of/speaking of his own experiences in the war.

• After he had given an account of the difficulties we were faced with, he went on to suggest ways of overcoming them.
  他在说明我们面临的困难后，接着又提出了克服困难的方法。

 (3) go on with意思是“继续”，常意味着一度中止，后又继续。

• He took a cup of tea, and went on with his story.
  他喝了杯茶，又继续讲他的故事。
• I will go on with the story where I left off last time.
  我将接着上次的内容讲述这个故事。

 (4) keep on也是“继续，坚持”之意，但更强调坚持和决心。

• If you keep on, you'll succeed in time.
  如果你坚持下去，到时候就会成功的。
• The neighbors asked them to stop making a noise, but they kept right on .
  邻居叫他们别再弄出噪声，但他们还是继续干他们的。
• I'm determined to keep on as usual.
  我决心和往常一样继续下去。
• They kept on though they were tired.
  虽然他们累了，但他们还是坚持着。

 (5) keep on doing sth.表示“不断或老是做某事(动作之间略有间隔)”。

• They kept on making the same mistakes.
  他们老是犯同样的错误。
• Don't give up; keep on trying .
  别放弃，继续努力。

 (6) ①keep doing sth.与keep on doing sth.接近，有时两者可以换用。主要表示每隔一段时间就发生一次动作。

• I kept asking myself, what I should have done for her.
  我不断地问自己：“我该为她做些什么呢？”
• Don't keep (on) asking me questions like that.
  不要老问我那样的问题。

②但keep doing sth.可以表达连续不断的动作或持续的状态。

• We'll keep going forward .
  我们将不断前进。

 (7) keep on with sth.也表示“继续或坚持做某事”。

• Even if you fail the examination again, you must try to keep on with your studies until you pass, however hard it sometimes seems.
  即使你再次考试不及格，你一定要坚持学习直到通过考试，不管有时这看起来有多困难。

 (8) continue doing sth.与continue to do sth.意思相同。

• After I had graduated, I continued to devote myself to research.
  我毕业以后继续献身于研究工作。
• Their country had continued planting both crops and obtained good yields.
  他们国家继续种植两种作物，取得了很好的收成。

 (9) proceed to do sth.表示“接着做某事，继续进行某事”。

• This he proceeded to do , at the same time making notes of my answers.
  他继续做着这件事，同时对我的回答做着笔记。
• After drinking a cup of tea, mother proceeded to cook the dinner.
  妈妈喝了一杯茶之后，接着又去做饭了。
