(1) hard可用作形容词，也可用作副词。

• It's a hard job. You have to work extra hard .
  这是个困难的工作。你得格外努力。
• I'm going to study hard next week, because the exams are getting close.
  下星期我打算努力学习，因为考试临近了。

 (2) ①hardly意思是“几乎不”(almost not)。

• I hardly studied at all last term. (也可说：I did very little work...)
  上学期我没怎么学习。

②hardly可放在句子的不同位置，用以改变句子中不同成分的意思。

• Hardly anybody understands what's going on.
  几乎没有人能理解正在发生什么事。
• I've hardly slept at all this week.
  整整这一周我都几乎没睡觉。
• It's hardly surprising.
  这没什么令人吃惊的。
• I've learnt hardly anything this year. (也可说：I've hardly learnt anything...)
  今年我几乎什么也没学到。
