(1) 用来表示时间时，in的意思是“在……末”；within意为“在……期间之内；不超过”，在时间界限上有差别。

• I'll finish this job in two weeks.
  我将在两周后完成这项工作。
• I'll finish this job within two weeks. (=...in less than two weeks.)
  我将在两周内完成这项工作。
• We'll come to see you in a week
  我们将在一周后来看你。

 (2) in 和within在表示位置时有时可以换用。

• Is Mr. Smith in/within?
   史密斯先生在吗？
• The post office is in/within walking distance of my house.
  邮局离我家很近，步行就能到。

 (3) 在美式英语口语中，有时把inside (of)用作within。

• I can finish the task inside (of) two weeks.
  我能在两周内完成这项工作。
