(1) 一般说来，in用于表示静止不动的位置，意为“在里面”；into用于表示到某一具体地方终止的运动，意为“进入……里面”。

• She came into the room laughing, but he went out crying.
  她笑着走进房间，但他却哭着走出去了。
• My mother's the woman in the chair by the window.
  我母亲就是坐在窗前椅子上的那一位。

 (2) in可代替into与许多动词连用，表示运动，这类动词主要是含有终止意味的动作，如：put, sit down, throw, jump, fall, dip, cut, thrust, introduce, break等。

• He put his hand in/into his pocket.
  他把手放进了口袋里。
• He jumped in/into the river to save the little girl.
  他跳入河里去救那个小女孩。
• My uncle sat down in his armchair and looked at me.
  我叔叔在扶手椅里坐下来，看着我。
• Throw it in/into the wastepaper basket.
  把它扔进废纸篓里。
• He went on, with his hands thrust (deep down) in/into his pockets.
  他继续讲着，两手(深深地)插入口袋里。

 (2) 但在表示运动的动词go, come, walk, run, dive, fly, flee等之后，要用into。

• She came into my study holding a newspaper.
  她手里握着一张报纸来到我的书房。
• He walked out into the garden and picked some strawberries for me.
  他到花园去为我摘了一些草莓。
• The boys dived into the swimming pool one after another.
  这些男孩一个接一个跳进了游泳池里。
• The old lady flew into a great passion.
  老太太勃然大怒。

 (3) into只能用作介词；in还可用作副词。
