(1) lose ground to意思是“让位给……；被……打败；竞争不过，输给”，相当于yield to。

 (2) lose out (to)意为“输(给)，败(给)”。

• Jim's father is afraid that he may lose out to larger firms.

• Jack came second again; he always loses out .
  杰克又得了第二，他老是输。

 (3) lose to也表示“输给、败给(某人)”。

• The tennis player was ashamed of losing to a much older opponent.
