no longer, not any longer, no more 与 not ...any more 这四个短语的意思都是“不再”。
(1) 有些语法家认为，no longer, not ...any longer指“现在”，把现在情况与过去比，时态多用现在时，有时也用将来时或过去时。
- That building no longer exists.
那幢建筑现在已不存在了。 - That building does not exist any longer .
那幢建筑现在已不存在了。 - He found that Tom was no longer working there.
他发现汤姆已不在那里工作了。
(2) any longer可以用在问句中。
- Does he live here any longer ?
他还在这里住吗？
(3) no more, not...any more 常用来指今后；no more用于书面语言；not...any more 用于口语，一般用将来时态。
- I will go to that cinema no more .
我再也不去那家电影院了。 - I will not go to that cinema any more .
我再也不去那家电影院了。
(4) 但据《牛津英语用法指南》，没有no longer, not any longer 用于“现在”，no more, not...any more用于“今后”的区分。
- I shall go there no longer .
我再也不去那儿了。 - I shall not go there any longer .
我再也不去那儿了。 - People cannot close their eyes to the facts any longer .
人们再也不能无视这些事实。 - He still smoked, but he drank no more .
他还吸烟，但不再喝酒。
(5) 美国人有时把no more当作no longer用。
- He is no more (= no longer ) ill.
他不再生病了。
(6) no more, (not...)any more有时用作名词，意思有所不同。
- Do you have any more to say?
你还有什么要说的吗？ - I don't have any more to say. (=I have no more to say.)
我没有什么要说的了。
(7) no more 有时还用作neither。
- You did not come, no more did he.
你没来，他也没来。 - If you won't do it, no more will I.
如果你不愿去做，我也不愿做。
(8) nothing more, never...any more也表示类似意思。
- I had said that I would have nothing more to do with him.
我曾经说过我与他将不再有任何关系。 - You must never play these practical jokes any more .
你决不能再搞这些恶作剧。
(9) no more than和not any more than意思都是“仅仅，只有”，前者为书面用语，后者为口语。
- The hotel is not any more than/no more than two hours' distance from here.
这家旅馆距这里只有两个小时路程。 - He is not any more/no more than twenty years old.
他只有20岁。
