(1) oppose指经过认真考虑或有重大理由对某人或某事极力反对,用作及物动词。
object表示一般地反对,抱有反感,不赞成;作为不及物动词,常与to sth.或to doing sth.连用,也可接不定式,较多地用于一瞬间突然反对;作为及物动词,意思是“指出……作为反对的理由或依据”,后接that从句。
- We firmly oppose /We are firmly opposed to hegemonism.
我们坚决反对霸权主义。 - Promote materialist dialectics and oppose metaphysics.
提倡唯物辩证法,反对形而上学。 - I don't object to/ I have no objection to doing that.
我不反对做这件事情。 - He objected to us keeping pets.
他反对我们养宠物。 - He objected that the weather was too wet to play outdoors.
他反对说,天气太潮,不能在室外玩耍。 - We opposed the people's war to the war of aggression.
我们以人民战争对付侵略战争。
*注意:关于oppose,英式英语中常用主动式,而美式英语中则常用be opposed to;这时opposed含有形容词性质。

(2) be (up) against 的意思也是“反对”,是一般用语。
- Her parents are (up) against her marrying a foreigner.
她父母反对她嫁给一个外国人。
(3) not approve of 与oppose同义,但反对的意味较后者弱,常可与disapprove of 换用。
- He doesn't approve of/disapprove of my entering the university.
他反对我上那所大学。
