 (2) ①captive是指“被俘虏的人，被俘获的动物”。

• The pirates took many captives and sold them as slaves.
  这些海盗抓了很多俘虏，并把他们当奴隶卖掉。

②captive用于引申义，指“着迷的人，为……所困的人”。

• He was a captive to her beauty.
  他为她的美貌着迷。

 (3) convict指“已定罪并在服刑的囚犯”。

• During the day, the convicts were expected to work in the prison.
  白天这些服刑犯要在监狱里干活。

 (4) criminal用作名词时，指“罪犯，犯罪分子”，是泛指。

• The criminal was sentenced to prison for ten years.
  这名罪犯被判10年监禁。
