(1) ①talent指某种特殊的(先天或习得的)才能、才干、天才,既可用作可数名词又可用作不可数名词。
- She has a talent for drawing.
她有绘画的天赋。 - He was considered to be a man of great talent/ with many talents .
他被认为是位很有天赋/多才多艺的人。
②talent也可指“有才能的人,人才”,为不可数名词。
- By the emigration of scientists, a considerable amount of talent is lost to his country each year.
随着科学家的向外移民,该国每年都流失大量人才。 - Here was a lack of local talent , so the club hired an actor from London to take the main part.

(2) gift可指“做某事的天才,禀赋”,通常指天生的才能,用作可数名词。
- To be able to paint so well is a real gift .
能画得这样好,真是天才。 - He has a gift for making people feel at home/for foreign languages/to write poems.
他有使人感到亲切的/学外语的/写诗的天赋。
(3) ①ability指“能力,智慧,才智”,尤其指心智方面的能力,用作此义时,通常作不可数名词。
- He was considered to be a person of great ability .
他被认为是很有能力的人。 - In that crisis, he had once more shown his ability to handle a delicate situation to the credit of his government and himself.

②ability又作“才能,才干”解,指先天的能力,用作可数名词。
- He was considered to be a person of many abilities .

(4) ①aptitude可作“资质,才能,天分,禀赋”解,这种才能可以是先天的,也可是习得的,通常为不可数名词,但有时可加不定冠词。
- He showed some/an aptitude for languages (in/for learning languages).
他在学习语言方面表现出了天分。
②aptitude还可作“某种才能”解,用作可数名词。
- He has a singular aptitude for dealing with a crisis.
他有一种处理危机的奇才。
(5) competence意为“称职,胜任,能力”,是不可数名词。
- She has unequalled competence in handling/to handle money.
在理财方面,她的能力无人能比。 - She was hired because of her outstanding competence as a secretary.
她之所以受雇是因为她具有作为一位秘书的非凡能力。
(6) ①capacity用于人时,作“能力,力量”解,尤指一个人的学习、理解能力。用作不可数名词,但有时可加不定冠词。
- I think he is a man of immense capacity .
我认为他是一个有超强能力的人。 - There is no doubt/They have no doubt that he has a great capacity for work.
毫无疑问,他的工作能力非常强。 - Her capacity for remembering is amazing.
她的记忆力真惊人。 - This theory is within/beyond the capacity of young readers.

②也有人把capacity用作可数名词。
- There is no doubt about the capacities of Jimmy.
吉米的能力毋庸置疑。
③capacity用于事物时,作“容量,能力”解,可以指“工厂、机器的生产能力;容器的容量”,这里从略。
(7) ①capability用于人时,意为“能力”,常用形式为capability of doing sth.或capability to do sth.。也可用于事物,指工厂、机器等的生产加工能力。可以是可数名词,也可以是不可数名词。
- Now our country is no longer what she used to be a hundred and fifty years ago; she has the capabilities to defeat any aggressors.
现在我们的国家已不是150年前的情况了,她有能力击败任何来犯之敌。 - Most people consider that he has great capabilities as a leader.

②capability又作“潜在的、未得到充分发展的能力、才能”解。这时一般用复数。

(8) accomplishment可用来表示“技艺,才艺,教养”,尤指社交、家政方面的技艺,用作可数名词。
- Among her accomplishments were dancing, playing the piano, sewing, cooking and riding.

(9) facility用于人时,意为“灵巧,熟练,才能”,多用作不可数名词。
- He has great facility in learning languages.
