(1) 前两个短语意为“兜售,吹捧”,为口语用语,常含贬义。其中about和around可以是副词,也可是介词(后接地点名词)。
- If you really want to get rid of that old bicycle, you can tout it around (the streets) for a week or so.
如果你真有意处理掉那辆旧自行车,你需要沿街兜售一周左右。 - It does not give a very good idea of a product if it has to be touted around (the market) in that offensive way.
如果非要以那种令人讨厌的方式兜售的话,并不会让人对一种产品有很好的印象。
(2) tout as意为“把……吹捧成”,常用被动句式。
- This new hotel is being touted as the best in town.
这家新旅馆被吹成是城里最好的。 - He was touted as a friend of the people, but actually he was merely a politician who was after nothing but his own interests.
他被吹捧成人民的朋友,而实际上他只不过是专门谋求个人私利的一介政客。
