(1) unavoidable意为“无法避免的”,多用于不好的事或不希望发生的事。
- His failure in the examinations was quite/absolutely unavoidable , for he had left his studies unattended to for so long a time.
他考试失败是绝对无法避免的事情,因为这么长时间他都疏于学业。 - The delay of the bus was quite unavoidable in such a thick fog.
雾太浓,公交车晚点无法避免。
(2) ①inevitable 也指“无法避免的,不能阻止的”,在不少场合可与unavoidable互换,但在含有必然趋势的意味时,一般用inevitable。
- After analyzing the internal contradictions of the capitalist system he pointed out that socialism is inevitable .(不用unavoidable)
在分析了资本主义制度的内部矛盾之后,他指出社会主义的到来是不可阻止的。 - Traffic delays are inevitable in such awful weather.
在这样糟糕的天气里交通延误是不可避免的。 - An argument was inevitable/unavoidable because they disliked each other so much.

②inevitable还表示“总是带有的,总是穿戴的”。
- She gave us her inevitable smile.

(3) inexorable意为“无情的,坚决不变的”,其行动或影响是人无法改变或阻止的。
- These are the inexorable facts we have to face.
这是我们不得不面对的无情事实。 - It is no use arguing with him. He is inexorable on that point.
和他争论没有意义,在这点上他是决不会改变主意的。
(4) inescapable意为“不可逃避,不可回避的”,往往含有令人不愉快、不愿接受的意味。
- We were forced to accept the inescapable conclusion that the problem was insoluble and the ship was going under.
我们被迫接受这无可逃避的结论:问题无法解决,船正在下沉。
(5) ineluctable 也指“不可逃避/回避的”,是较正式用词,主要用于an ineluctable fate,可与inescapable换用。
- The astronauts couldn't have dreamed that they would fall victims of their ineluctable/inescapable fate.
这些宇航员做梦也不曾料到他们会成为自己不可逃避的命运的牺牲品。
