(1) wary意为“小心的,警惕的”,指惯于留神可能的危险或麻烦的,与of连用,可接名词、动名词。
- You must always be wary of giving offence to others.
你一定要永远小心不要冒犯他人。 - He had a wary look on his face/in his eyes.
他脸上/眼中有着机警的表情/目光。 - Keep a wary eye on that man. He is suspicious-looking.
对那人要多加小心,他看上去形迹可疑。
(2) cautious指“小心的,谨慎的”。
- Tell him to be cautious . He mustn't take any unnecessary risks.
告诉他要多加小心,一定不要冒任何不必要的危险。 - He is very cautious not to make mistakes in spelling.
他非常谨慎,以免在拼写中出错。 - He is intensely cautious in making decisions.
他在做决定时极为谨慎。 - She is cautious of/about telling secrets.
她小心翼翼地不泄露秘密。 - You must be cautious with the knife.
你用这把刀时必须小心。
(3) alert用作形容词时,意思是“有警惕的,机警的,留心的,活泼的”。
- She is such an alert little girl that everybody likes her.
她是一个如此活泼伶俐的小姑娘,每个人都喜欢她。 - The doctor ordered them to be alert for any sign of change in the critically ill patient.
医生命令他们要留心这位重症病人的任何变化迹象。 - He was alert in answering the reporter's questions.

(4) observant指“严格遵守的;留心的;观察力敏锐的”。
- Everybody must be observant of laws.
每个人都必须严格遵守法律。 - He is not keenly observant in such matters.
他对这类事情不很留意观察。 - He's an observant person.
他是一位观察力敏锐的人。
(5) vigilant意为“有警惕的;保持戒备的”。
- The police should be always vigilant in the fight against crime.
在打击犯罪的斗争中,警察应一直保持警惕。 - We have to be vigilant in case any accident should happen.
我们应保持警惕以防事故发生。
(6) ①watchful指“有警惕性的,当心的”。
- The hunter kept a watchful eye on the valley below him.
猎人警惕地注视着他下面的山谷。 - Be especially watchful if you take a bus.
如你乘公交车,要特别小心。
②watchful还可构成短语:be/remain watchful for(注意找寻,提防)和be watchful of(注意)。
- We must be/remain watchful for any sign of trouble.
我们必须警惕任何出现麻烦的迹象。 - We're pressed for money at present. We have to be very watchful of our expenses.
目前我们的资金相当紧张,我们必须注意开支。
