(1) ①worldly指“尘世间的，关心世俗欢乐的”。

• A worldly person is one who is interested in the pleasures of this life.
  一个世俗的人是一位热衷于此生此世生活享乐的人。
• His total worldly possessions amounted to little more than the clothes he stood up in.
  他所有的财产加起来比他身上穿的那些衣物多不了多少。
• Worldly things mean nothing to monks. They're not at all worldly .
  对僧侣来说尘世间的一切都毫无意义，他们毫无世俗之心。

②worldly还作“老于世故的”解。

• He's too worldly to be shocked by the scandal.
  他太老于世故而不为这桩丑闻震惊。

 (2) ①earthly指“尘世间的，人间的”，有时可与worldly换用。

• He does not care about earthly/worldly pleasures.
  他对世俗的享乐并不关心。
• He seeks no earthly/worldly reward. His reward will come in heaven.
  他不求尘世的回报，只求上天的回报。

②earthly可用来加强语气，有时可译作“毫无”。

• There's no earthly reason for you to do such a thing.
  你做出这样一件事是毫无道理的。
