(1) work out at/to意为“数额为,(价款等)达到(某数量)”。

(2) ①be equal to意为“等于,相当于”,在这些意义上,可与动词equal, amount to等互换。

②be equal to还作“能胜任,能应付”解,相当于be up to,后接名词或动名词,有时不用be,而用feel, seem等系动词。

(3) reach除其他意思外,还可表示“达到(某一数量)”。

(5) ①come to除其他意思外,还可表示“共计”。

②用于引申意义,可表示“实际意思是……;意味着……;无成就、结果等”。
- What he says comes to this: that I should never have anything to do with her again.

③表示“无成就、结果等”时,用于否定句,可与amount to互换。
- As an artist, he will never come/amount to much. He lacks the creative fire.

(6) run out at意为“达到,总计”。
- The actual cost may run out at rather more than we originally expected.

(7) reach into, run into, run to, run up to除用于其他意思外,也可表示“(数量上)达到……”,具体用法是:
①reach into意为“达到……;延续至……”,可用于数量、空间或时间,指数额时,不用确切数目。
- The cold weather has reached well into the spring.
这种寒冷天气已持续到了春天很长的时间。 - The tax bill reaches into thousands of dollars.
税单已达到上万美元。 - Record sales this month reached well into the thousands.

②run into可表示“合计为……;达到;(书)印(多少版)”,用于数量时,一般不用具体数字。
- The national debt runs into eight figures.

③run to意为“达到(数量、长度等);(书)印(多少版)”。

④run up to指“高达”。
- Prices ran up to $500 per ton.

(8) ①average用作及物动词时,意为“平均为”。
- The cost of our food averages 500 yuan a month.
我们的食品消费平均每月500元。 - Current writing was somewhat shorter sentences, averaging between 20 to 30 words.
现在的写作在某些程度上都是比较短的句子,平均在20到30个单词之间。 - The rainfall in this region averages 150mm or so a year.

②average有时表示“平均干多少时间的工作”。
- I average 10 hours' work a day.

③average还可作“把……平均、均分”解。

(9) average out at指“(把……)平均为……”,average作及物动词时,主语为人;作不及物动词时,主语为物。
