Gulliver's Travels (1726), a novel by Anglo-Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift, is generally considered a masterpiece of satire. As a world-renowned British political commentator and ironical novelist of 18th century, Jonathan Swift created numerous novels during his life and the most famous one is Gulliver's Travels, which reflected the contradictions and problems in British society during the first half of 18th century through Lemuel Gulliver's (a ship surgeon) unusual voyages, and bitterly satirized some unhealthy tendencies in society at that time.

The book begins with a short preamble in which Lemuel Gulliver gives a brief outline of his life and history before his voyages. During his first voyage, Gulliver is washed ashore after a shipwreck and finds himself a prisoner of a race of tiny people, less than six inches tall, who are inhabitants of the island country of Lilliput. In the second part of the story, when the sailing ship is blown off course by storms and forced to sail for land in search of fresh water, Gulliver is abandoned by his companions and found by a farmer who is seventy-two feet (22 m) tall. The third part is about a voyage to Laputa, the flying island of Laputa. a kingdom devoted to the arts of music and mathematics but unable to use them for practical ends. On the fourth voyage Gulliver is abandoned in a landing boat when his crew mutiny, and meets a race of horses who call themselves Houyhnhnms; they are the rulers, while the deformed creatures called Yahoos are human beings in their base form.
