Growing Pains is an American television sitcom about an affluent family, which aired on ABC from 1985 to 1992. The show ran for seven seasons with a total of 166 episodes aired.

The story centers on the Seaver family, who resides at 15 Robin Hood Lane in Long Island, New York. Dr. Jason Seaver, a psychiatrist, works from home because his wife, Maggie, has gone back to work as a reporter. Jason has to take care of the kids: ladies man Mike, bookish honors student Carol, and rambunctious Ben.

Growing Pains was imported into China at a quite early time, airing from 1990 to 1994. Its initial success had freshened Chinese audience's impression of American middle-class family life. The elder son Mike, an outgoing, mischievous character had won numerous Chinese hearts of affection. Another positive influence was, by learning from Dr. Seaver, Chinese parents were inspired to enlighten children in a less demanding, more tolerable manner. As the new-born family sitcom was on its rise in the 1980s, Growing Pains stood out as one of the best of them and had ever since told audience a happy suburban American family with over one child.
