The Voice is an American reality television singing competition broadcast on NBC based on the original The Voice of Holland . The Voice began airing on 26 April, 2011, as a spring TV season program. The first American series was hosted by Carson Daly, with Alison Haislip serving as the backstage and social networking correspondent.

The winner is determined by television viewers voting by telephone, Internet, SMS text, and iTunes Store purchases of the audio-recorded artists' vocal performances. The winner will receive US$100,000 and a “record deal” with Universal Music Group for winning the competition.

Each season begins with the “Blind Auditions”, where coaches form their team of artists whom they mentor through the remainder of the season. The coaches' chairs are faced towards the audience during artists' performances; those interested in an artist press their button, which turns their chair towards the artist and means that the coach wants the singer to join his team. With one team member remaining for each coach, the contestants compete against each other in the finale where the outcome is decided solely by public vote.

The show is popular among American audiences and has been nominated for four Primetime Emmys and other eleven nominations.
