other than与another...than不同

有读者问这样一道选择题：

I don't travel much. I have never gone to_________Detroit.

A. a city another than　B. a city than

C. a city other than　D. another city than

答案为C。此处的than是否有“除了”的意思？ 是否亦可选D?

表“除了”的不单是than，而是other than。不可选D，因为another city than Detroit的意思不是“除了底特律之外的城市”，而是“另一个与底特律不同的城市”。
