如何解释didn't ought to呢？
这不是标准英语，有人说是方言。这种说法显然是受了情态动词have to的影响所致，也可与used to类比。didn't ought to在小说中似乎并不罕见，再如：
(2)They didn't ought to do that sort of thing.
(3)They're best quality, they didn't ought to be so slow catchin'. （they指炉中的煤；catchin'也是非标准英语，即catching）
另外，还有didn't ought to have done的说法，例：
(4)You didn't ought to have let that fire out.
