有一读者问：下面两句中为什么用 to put 和 to be而不用 put 和 be？

上述 to put 与 to be 之所以用to，主要说明两点：一、借用此不定式形式表示 to 后的动词形式是动词原形，不是其他动词形式如分词、动名词等。例如 put 之前如不带 to，它也可能是现在式、过去式或过去分词，不一定是动词原形。二、动词前如没有 to，它也可能是别的词类。例如 live 之前如无 to，它就可能是形容词；再如 stand，其前如无 to，就可能是一名词。
