有一读者问：有这样一道选择题：

所给答案为C，但 but 这个介词后不是不能用动名词吗？为何不选用A呢？
首先，应该指出，介词之后并非不可用动名词，相反，作为介词，but 之后完全可用动名词，正如可用名词一样，如：
(2)In this world there is nothing but meeting and parting .
同样，上述句（1）中的介词 but 之后亦应用动名词 going。
but 之后有时确是不可用动名词，而须用不定式，但这时 but 则已不是介词而是连词了，如：
(3)He did nothing but laugh .（but 后省去了 he did）
(4)I have no choice but to accept the fact.（but 相当于 but that I have the choice）
