for doing与to do

有读者问这样一句话：

The athletes come from the different countries for taking part in the games.

为何用for taking...而不用to take...呢？

二者皆可用，区别不大，只是for taking...着重笼统地表示一件事，to take...较为具体，着重表示一特定事件而已。
