有一读者问： 有这样一句话：
(1)She stood in the window, looking out on the traffic on the street.
如何解释这里的in呢？
window有二义：一是窗户（the opening in a building, car, etc.），具此意义的window之前用in时，乃指窗户或窗框本身内，例：
(2)A windowpane is a piece of glass in a window .
另一义是窗口（the space inside a window)，指窗下一空间。上述句（1）中的in the window即意指“在窗口”，再如：
(3)There was an arrangement of books in the window .
(4)Suddenly I saw a light burning in a window .
(5)She's got some wonderful plants in the window .
window所指的空间可以很大，如商店里的橱窗，例：
(6)How much is that suit in the window ?
