有一读者问： 有这样两个句子：
(1)They take sandwiches and cans of Coca Cola or they make a fire and cook hamburgs on the beach.
(2)There are a lot of activities at the beach.
on the beach 与 at the beach 有何不同？
在英语里表地点的介词 at, on, in, by 等当中， at 的概括性最强，也就是说，最不精确具体。它只是意味着“在某一点（处）”。 at the beach 就是一种比较笼统的说法，意味着“在海滩处”或“在海滩那个地方”。 on the beach 就不同了，它很具体地指“在海滩的表面上”。如说 in the beach 则指“在海滩的范围之内”。如说 by the beach 则指“在海滩的近旁”。但请注意， at 后接表地点的名词时，往往有抱有某种目的的含义，如：
(3)She was standing at the door. （可能在等人）
(4)He was at his desk again. 他又伏案工作了。
